Generally, you don’t need to cook the filling before you make a sausage roll. The amount of time it takes to bake a sausage roll will cook your average sausage meat mixture to perfection. If you’re adding extra ingredients or making a veggie alternative, like our mushroom and squash sausage rolls, you may need to fry or roast some of the elements before you turn them into a filling.
Yes, you can freeze sausage rolls. In fact, they are particularly easy to freeze and bake. For the best result, freeze your sausage rolls before they have been cooked. You can freeze cooked sausage rolls too, just be sure to let them cool to room temperature first.
A cooked sausage roll will last in your fridge for up to three days. Be sure to pop it in the fridge once it’s cooled down though, as a sausage roll shouldn’t be left at room temperature for more than two hours. If you freeze your sausage roll, it will last for up to three months.
